Towering National basketball defensive player, Matthew Boardman says that the national basketball side needs to stay positive and play the offense open against Fiji today (Thursday) in the 2017 FIBA Melanesia Basketball Cup Day 2 fixture.
“I just think we need to run the offense and get open. If we can successfully run the offense every time when we get up the court and stay positive through the whole game we will win,” speaking to RAW SPORTS from Port Moresby.
The national men’s basketball side in yesterday’s encounter with the hosts lost their momentum in the first 10 minutes. After a close first quarter it would appear another Solomon Islands win was in the making.
Matthew Boardman was impressive until he left the floor through injury. A couple of blocks coupled with strong offensive and defensive rebounds did put PNG on notice.
A misfiring, Waige Turueke also shot blank.
“We need to improve and get our offence going,” Boardman said.
He added that games against New Caledonia and Fiji would not be an easy task, need their confidence and structural play to get a better result.
Brendan Beak’s side will need a win to keep their hopes high in the competition.
The men’s team game today is scheduled for 6:00 pm (local time).
