WEST Honiara Member of Parliament, Hon. Namson Tran has supported the Solomon Cup Tournament underway with an amount of $100,000.
Respective team managers and the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) President, William Lai witnessed a brief presentation over the weekend at Lawson Tama.
West Honiara Constituency Development Officer (CDO) Brain Taupiri representing Mr. Tran said that the support is a gesture of sportsmanship and for the spirit of football.
“These assistance is to support each participating provincial team technically, especially during the weeks of competition and also for the development of football in the country,” Taupiri expressed.
He added that Mr. Tran is also a big football fan in the country, and wishes all provinces taking part in the tournament to play with good spirit of sportsmanship.
SIFF’s President on behalf of his provincial federations thanked Mr. Tran for his kind assistance.
“Mr Tran is a football fan, and with his assistance signifies the spirit of sportsmanship he has and the passion he has for the game of football especially in the country,” Lai said.
Mr. Lai also said that SIFF also had a close relationship with the West Honiara MP and one goal for football development.
Each provincial teams received a cheque of $10,000 each for assisting them throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, the National tournament is currently underway with hosts Honiara Warriors taking on Central Province as the opening match.
