BY SOLOMON ISLANDS CHESS FEDERATION
A two-day chess tournament is being organized by the Solomon Islands Chess Federation. This time is for the Under 20 age category, targeting youths and school children.
The tournament is set for Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October, at the Woodford International School. There are great prizes up for grabs.
The federation wishes to encourage all young players Under 20 years to come and participate in the tournament.
“There is a limit of 30 players and it’s a first register, first play”
“Although we have had many young players taking part in our chess competitions, this is the first time for the federation to categorically organize a tournament for the Under 20’s”
It is anticipated that the tournament will help to further promote the sport among our youths and school children in the country.
“We would like to take this time to thank the Youth Division of the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs for their generous financial support towards the tournament”
The federation is pleased with the new partnership established with the ministry and hope things would go accordingly in terms of developing the psychosocial wellbeing of our youths in the country.
“Those wishing to participate in the tournament are to collect a registration form from the General Secretary of the federation. The registration fee is $30 per player The GS can be contacted on 7499172”.
In 2020 Solomon Islands will host Oceania Under 20 Chess Championship, and the winner of this tournament will get a place in the tournament next year.
In the meantime, the federation is prepared to send our national representation James Tepuke Baiango to take part in the International Chess Open in New Caledonia from 12th to 19th October.
