Avaiki Claimed Champions of Rugby Challenge

The South Pacific Oil Limited (SPOL) Avaiki Rugby club has claimed champions of the 2017 Taina Rugby challenge at Town ground national rugby stadium on Thursday.
They beat rivals Matangiki 19-5 in an impressive grand-final show down on Thursday.
Speaking on behalf of the major sponsor, Mrs. Roselyn Pongi stressed that the Tina Rugby challenge is specifically sponsored for the Renbel community in Honiara.
“Sport is an avenue that can easily bring everyone together despite whatever the differences we might face.
“On behalf of the major sponsors, I would like to acknowledge all the players in the participating team for your time, effort and hard work in making such tournament possible.
“With good behaviours executed by the players and the supporters, we successfully and peacefully ended the tournament,” she said.
Meanwhile, Avaiki head Coach Douglas Hatigeva thanked the sponsors and his players for the victory; stressing that there victory is other major achievement to mark the sixth major title of the club in 2017.
“I dedicated the victory to the fans and supporters for their marvellous support that they lend to the team during the competitions,” he said.
He also acknowledges the other competing teams with great respect because without them the competition means nothing.
“I respect all the competing teams in this championship challenge and I kindly ask them for us to work together to keep such competition alive and active in the years to come,” the head coach said.
“This competition is not about wining, but the significant thing that makes it more important is that it brings all of us together as one people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Taina rugby challenge is an initiative to bring young Rennel and Bellona people together through the sport of rugby.
