7s Squad Steps Up For Mini Games

Solomon Islands National rugby 7s team preparation has stepped up following their recent campaign in the Oceania rugby championship.

Head coach, Leslie Puia said his boys have shown commitment in training working towards improving in the Mini Games.

“We need to step up in preparing us for the competition, there’s a lot of areas we need to work on patching things up and its been positive,” Puia told RAW SPORTS.

Coach Puia also revealed that only a player was included in the current squad that competed in the Oceania Championship.

“I was hoping to fill in additional players to the squad, however some of the best ones were left out due to the data system that is used to fill in the names of athletes selected to represent Solomon’s in the Mini Games.

“I selected players according to their performances, attitude and commitment towards the team.

With majority of his best players couldn’t make it, yet he is confident that his side will do their best during the games.

Solomon Rugby submits 25 names to National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI), only 13 players approved on the data system. And the rest were disapproved.

The team is currently camping at the SIRUF rugby stadium, and they are expecting to leave for Port Vila, Vanuatu on Sunday.
