7s Squad Set Off For Oceania Champ

Solomon Islands national rugby 7s team left the country yesterday to compete in the Oceania Rugby 7s Championship in Suva, Fiji.

The 12 members squad and 3 officials will kick off their campaign in the 2 day competition set to kick off on Friday 10th.

In a recent interview coach/player, Leslie Puia said the team is in high spirit hoping for better results in the championship.

“We expect a rather tough opponents ahead but we are confident that we have the qualities to compete.

“Solomon Islands are in the same playing level compare to other Pacific countries, just because of strength and size the only advantage they have over us but yet we have the skills to play.

13 teams from around the region vying to take the championship title from Fiji, including HSBC Series core teams Australia, Samoa and New Zealand. The event will comprise of 4 pools consisting of Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Cook Islands, American Samoa, New Caledonia, Nauru, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Tuvalu.

Solomon Islands are pooled alongside, Australia and Tonga in Group C.
