SOLOMON Islands National rugby 7s squad are on track with their preparation ahead of the Oceania championship in November.
Speaking to RAW SPORTS Head coach, Leslie Puia said that the team’s preparation so far is positive despite some players in the current squad were suspended in the recent Solrice 15s Inter Island Competition due to disciplinary measures.
“We are looking in ways to recruit players as replacements in the squad, we will never be down hearted in such situation we need to step up and look forward.
Coach Puia also confirmed that three players were picked in the Inter Island championship on board the national side each player from the top 3 teams in the Solrice sponsored tournament.
“3 players are already called to team up with the national 7s team, one each from Malaita Subi, Team Bellona and Rennel.
With the wealthy experience of Puia he adds that in the regional scene Solomon Islands yet posses the playing skills in the game of rugby, and the country’s level is slightly catching up compared to Australia and New Zealand.
“Solomon Islands are in the same playing level compare to other Pacific countries, just because of strength and size the only advantage they have over us but yet we have the skills to play.
Solomon Islands are pooled alongside, Australia and Tonga in Group C.
The Oceania Championship will take place in Suva, Fiji from 10-11 November.
